Title of Dissertation/Thesis:Design of UHF RFID Reader

Abstract:
EPC C1G2 protocol was adopted by ISO/IEC18000-6 in 2006 and called ISO/IEC18000-6C. ISO/IEC18000-6B has been mainly used in traffic while ISO/IEC18000-6C has been mainly used in logistics, production and supply chain management. However, tags of 6C are faster in speed, cheaper in price han those of 6B. This thesis focuses on the design of RFID reader based on ISO/IEC18000-6C. The basic principles and frame of RFID are introduced firstly in this thesis. The system design of RFID reader is given, and both the frame and corresponding principles of each module are elaborated. The three protocol standards of ISO/IEC 18000-6A, 6B and 6C are introduced in the thesis. An UHF RFID reader based on ISO/IEC 18000-6C is implemented in this thesis. Both software and hardware of the design are discussed. The hardware includes the RF sending circuit, the RF receiving circuit and the digital base band processor circuit. The software includes the functioning mechanism, anti-collision algorithm and implementation of decoder elaborated explicitly. Test results show that, the reader can work up to a distance of 45 cm at the single-tag reading speed of 20bit/ms when the transmitting power is 17dBm. The working frequency of the reader can change from 800MHz to 960MHz. To minimize resource usage of MCU, the protocol processing part of base band processor was designed using IP cores. To meet the national standard about channel spectrum, a FIR filter in the part of digital base band is designed using MATLAB. Test results show that the filter well meets the requirements.
