Title of Dissertation/Thesis:Research and Design of Security High-Performance SSD controller

Abstract:
As the rapid development of various terminal applications, the era of cloud computing, Internet of things and big data is coming with higher speed. In the field of personal consumption, enterprise, public institution, and so on, the data exponential growth. The processing speed and security of these data have a high demand to the terminal storage system. The traditional mechanical hard disk (HDD) is limited by the mechanical and physical properties, cannot meet the needs, just like I/O bandwidth, and so on. Solid state disk (SSD) mainly composed of controller, flash memory and other electronic components. Compared with HDD, SSD has been accepted by the market because of its high performance, low power consumption and seismic feature. With the continuous decline in the cost in recent years, SSD has shown a trend of explosive growth and quickly occupy the market of the mechanical hard disk. At present, SSD has been widely used in national defense, military, industrial control, video surveillance, power, medical, aviation, navigation equipment and other fields. However, with the constant exposure of international information security incidents in recently years, data security is becoming increasingly the focus of attention. Because the China started in the storage areas late, both in the storage medium, or storage control technology are relatively backward now. Face to the customization demands in information security, national defense industry, security of industrial control and other areas, the storage controller chips that support data encryption and security application of domestic are scarce, which has always hindered the rapid development of the domestic information security industry. This paper first describes the current development of SSD market and research background, then introduces and analysis the architecture of SSD in hardware and software aspects, makes a brief introduction about the main structure of SSD controller and the working principle of the flash(FTL) translation layer. And then introduces the design and verification method detailed to the high bandwidth security architecture, NAND flash controller and hardware accelerators of flash memory management algorithm. by integrating other related modules and encryption engine IP, this paper completes the front-end design and simulation of the SSD controller chip, finally pass the FPGA system prototype verification, and also gives out the direction of improving work.
