Title of Dissertation/Thesis:Design and Implementation of Key Wireless Communication IP Cores for inside Tire Module of TPMS

Abstract:
As the statistics show, nearly 1/5 of the whole automobile accidents on highway are caused by flat tire. In this condition, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is raised for monitoring the pressure of tire to release the high risk of flat tire. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) promulgated Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard which requires all automobile assembled after September 1st 2007 must equip TPMS. Recent years, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has been rapidly developed in China. In this background, Key Wireless Communication IP Cores for inside Tire Module of TPMS are proposed in this thesis. These IP cores contain a Low Frequency Wake-up Receiver and a Radio Frequency Transmitter. The typical architecture of direct TPMS contains Sensors Module in each tire and the Receiver Module located on the dashboard which indicates pressure. The low-power wake-up receiver is proposed to hurdle through the energy limitation problem of the inside Tire Module. Weak inversion methodology is analyzed and implemented in this work. This receiver which uses a architecture of logarithmic amplifier performing as OOK demodulator is fabricated in ASMC 0.35um BCDEE process. The total power consumption is only about 2uA.The RF transmitter is proposed to transmit pressure and temperature information of the Sensors Module to the inside Cab Module. The RF transmitter contains a PLL frequency synthesizer and a RF Power Amplifier. The signal from MCU directly modulate the on and off of the PA to realize OOK modulation. This work is fabricated in UMC 0.18um RF process. The total power consumption is only about 10mA.
