Title of Dissertation/Thesis:Research on the Key Technology of Wireless Endoscopic Micro-Ball Data Accessing and Implementation

Abstract:
The wireless endoscopic Micro-Ball is a device designed for the painless examination of gastrointestinal (GI) tracts with full-field view. Compared with the wireless endoscopic capsule with only one or two image sensors, the Micro-Ball with six image sensors reduces the blind area to a great extent. Due to the high power consuming caused by the six image sensors, the Micro-Ball saves the captured images into a memory, rather than transmitting them out of human body in real-time. Such a strategy saves energy and makes the Micro-Ball work long enough. When the check procedure is finished, the Micro-ball is excreted out of human body and the stored images need to be accessed. This work designs and implements an image data reader. After the Micro-Ball is placed inside the image data reader, the images stored in the Micro-Ball’s memory can be accessed through wireless communications. Since the battery in the Micro-Ball will exhaust after the check procedure, the image data reader has to provide power for the Micro-Ball. Take the limited volume of the Micro-Ball and the random orientation of the Micro-Ball when placed into the image data reader into account, this paper proposes an adaptive omnidirectional wireless power transmission scheme. The analysis and implementation of the scheme is presented, and the experimental results show that the power delivery efficiency can be guaranteed from 55% to 66%. This work also includes the hardware and software design of the image data reader. Using a microprocessor with ARM9 core and a transceiver Zarlink70101, the images stored in the Micro-Ball’s memory can be accessed and transmitted to a PC station. The software used for displaying the images on PC station is also designed.
