Title of Dissertation/Thesis:A SoC for Pressure Balance Measurement Application in Total Knee Arthroplasty
Abstract:
Total knee arthroplasty is a surgery that prosthesis is used to replace the lesions or necrosis of the knee, it can effectively reduce the suffering of patients. In total knee arthroplasty, the pressure data on both sides of the knee prosthesis is guiding significance for doctors. Doctors could get the pressure data on both ends of the prosthesis in the real-time observation. The dynamic adjustment of ligament tension could be realized, and it could improve the quality of syrgery to reduce the indications in patients after surgery and to extend the life of the prosthesis.
This article introduces the integrated system on chip (SoC) on the basis of pressure balance monitoring device that has been developed to the total knee arthroplasty. And this chip includes a microcontroller, a analog to digital converter, radio frequency transcerver, and some other functional module of the SoC.
Tha main work of this paper includes the following.
(1) The system integration. The SoC chip integrates a number of modules, including digital logic circuits, an analog-to-digital converter, and radio frequency module. The digital logic circuits integrate a high-performance microprocessor DW8051 and SRAM used as data and program memory. It also includes a FIFO module for temporary storage of data.
(2) Design and implementation of the interface circuit. The interface circuit includes the following: interface between the ADC and the microprocessor DW8051, interface between the RF module and the DW8051 and interface between the SoC and the peripheral-serial peripheral interface, which is used to download the program.
(3) Design and implementation of software. The software is divided into two parts: Bootloader which is used to download the data processing program and the data processing program stored in external EEPROM chip.
The SoC system will be able to effectively improve the efficiency of the monitoring device for the pressure balance in total knee arthroplasty. At the same time, the implementation of the SoC based on microprocessor programmable general-purpose platform provides a reference to the application in the medical field.
