Title of Dissertation/Thesis:Baseband Protocol Processing and Security Study in RFID Reader

Abstract:
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been regarded as one of the most ten important technology in this century because of its high speedy, real-time, accurate information collection and procession.Studies on RFID is becoming a hot topic, especially on the UHF band. According to the specific requirements of UHF RFID applications, this thesis focuses on protocol processing and MPU controlling of UHF RFID system, and has following achievements on baseband processing and security of RFID reader: Based on two types of RFID chips, MPU controlling research and design are carried on through C8051F411, a type of the Single Chip Microcomputer. This thesis controls the two chips seperatly by designing each MPU controlling program. The MPU controlling program mainly deals with protocol controlling, data coding and decoding, communication with PC and so on. Communication protocol is defined to support the communication between MPU and PC, based of which PC software is designed to realize the PC controlling over RFID reader. Finally, the PC software controls MPU and then the chips to realize the whole tag-reading flow. As a part work of RFID verification platform, protocol layering of RFID reader is mainly discussed in this thesis. Based on the deep research into the protocol layering of RFID reader, a universal encoder is proposed to support various coding types in various RFID protocolls; a decoder which supports several main RFID tag-to-reader coding types is also designed. Meanwhile, dependent on the characteristics of RFID verification platform, a new typical interface scheme with MPU is proposed and realized. Finally, the RFID verification platform is built and its main RFID function is confirmed to work well. Aimed at the safety actuality of RFID systems, the security of RFID systems is deeply discussed. A type of passive attack technology is mainly discussed, analyzed, simulated and verified. And then the thesis summarizes the characteristics of this attack technology and proposes method to weaken the attack. In addition, a proactive anti-interception method used in data link layer is proposed to solve the contradiction between the limited processing ability of the passive tags and the high security requirements of application in UHF RFID system. Through software simulations and hardware tests, it is shown that this new method can jam the third party listener effectively without affecting self-receiving and it could improve the communication security only with modifies of reader and no changes of existing tags.
