We demonstrate a novel wireless intracranial
pressure (ICP) monitoring system based on air pressure sensing.
This system consists of an implantable ICP monitoring device, a
wireless ICP data recorder and a data display software. The ICP
monitoring device is implanted outside the skull and under the
scalp while an air-pouch is inserted into the cranial space to
measure the ICP value. The measured pressure value is
transmitted to the wireless data recorder outside the body in the
416 MHz band. The real-time ICP values are transmitted to the
display software for history data reviewing, storage and further
processing. This system can be attractive in two ways: 1) high
ICP measuring resolution and accuracy, 2) low damage to brain
tissues compared to the conventional implantable wireless ICP
systems.
